Rainbow Nursery was established in May 1993. The group is run by a qualified pre-primary school teacher with an assistant. It is a home based group situated in a homely playroom behind my house in Mowbray, Cape Town. The playroom leads out to a large leafy and tree filled garden and outdoor play area.
The educational philosophy and methodology draws from the Waldorf impulse and the indications of Rudolf Steiner for early childhood education. I endeavor to provide a secure, nurturing and homely environment for the young child so that they can feel safe, relaxed and happy to be away from home for a while each day.
Meet the Team
Jenny Wyeth
I was born and educated in Cape Town, growing up first in Camps Bay and then Rondebosch. I always felt drawn to work with young children and so began my post matric training at Barkly House Training College for preschool teachers. It was during my training that I had my first encounter with the Waldorf early childhood approach, visiting the Constantia Waldorf Kindergarten for an open day. I felt that this was inherently the right environment for young children. I became disillusioned with main stream education and left the training college. It was a while before I began working as an early childhood practitioner. I went on to complete a BA in Social Science, following my interests in Psychology, English literature and Social Anthropology.

I was born in Butterworth in the Eastern Cape in 1977, the youngest to a large family. I matriculated from Cunningham High School. After my twin boys were born, I moved to Cape Town to work as a in housekeeper and au pair to a family with two children. In 2004 my mother passed away and my children needed to live with me in Cape Town. We moved to Khayelitsha to stay with my sister’s family. I have always loved small children and when I heard from a friend that there was a position for an assistant at Rainbow Nursery School I was eager to apply.
